Despite reaching the 28 million milestone, population growth is expected to moderate in the coming years.

Australia’s population has officially surpassed 28 million, with the national population clock ticking over the milestone in the early hours of June 2.

The figure is based on the estimated resident population as of July 1, 2025, combined with ongoing projections for births, deaths and migration.
