Woman Pushed from Flight Over ‘Emotional Support Squirrel’

October 11, 2018 Updated: October 11, 2018

A woman brought an emotional support squirrel in a cage onto a flight at Orlando International Airport on Oct. 9.

The woman indicated to Frontier Airlines on her reservation for Cleveland-bound flight 1612 that she would be bringing a support animal onboard. The animal was also cleared by TSA’s X-ray machine.

The problem was, the woman had not mentioned her support animal was a squirrel.

“Rodents, including squirrels, are not allowed on Frontier flights,” a Frontier spokeswoman said in a prepared statement.

“The passenger was advised of the policy and asked to deplane.”

But the woman refused to leave, so all other passengers on the packed flight were asked to leave the cabin instead.

Thereafter, Orlando police entered the plane to escort the woman to the main terminal at Orlando International Airport.

The flight was delayed for two hours due to the incident, according to News 5 Cleveland.

Twitter user Brandon Nixon shared a video of the woman being pushed off the flight in a wheelchair.

“So I’m flying back to Cleveland and everyone got on the plane then was asked to exit the plane. Only to later find out a woman brought a squirrel in her carry on and labeled it as her emotional support pet. Then refuses to get off the plane until the cops come,” Nixon wrote Oct. 9. “You can’t make this stuff up.”

“This is going to be a story to remember for the rest of our lives,” he said, according to The Associated Press.

“I just want everyone to know that all passengers had to deplane my flight to Cleveland because a woman brought a SQUIRREL ON THE PLANE,” Twitter user Julia Papesch wrote Oct. 9.

Frontier Airlines allows cats and dogs as emotional support or trained service animals, according to their updated policy announced Oct. 1. Miniature horses are also permitted as trained service animals.

Earlier in January, a woman attempted to bring an emotional support peacock to a United flight. Just weeks later, a college student flushed her emotional support hamster down a toilet after a Spirit Airlines employee allegedly told her to do so, since the animal wasn’t allowed on the flight.
