A woman in North Carolina has been reported missing near where the bodies of three other women were found earlier this year.

Abby Patterson, 20, was last seen leaving her home in Lumberton, North Carolina, getting into a brown Buick on Sept. 5.

She told her family she would be gone for an hour, but when an hour came and went, her mother called her to find out where she was.

The phone went straight to voicemail and Patterson has not made contact with her family since, which they say is very unlike her.

Patterson lives in Florida and was in North Carolina for a few days to visit her mother.

“We talk or text every day,” Samantha Lovette, Patterson’s mother, told Fox News. She described Patterson, the youngest of her three children, as “bubbly and free spirited.”

Patterson’s disappearance follows the deaths of three women in the area, although police do not know if they are linked.

On April 18, investigators discovered the body of Christina Bennett, 32, inside an abandoned home in the city.

They also found the remains of Rhonda Jones, 36, in a nearby trash can the same day.

The remains of Megan Oxendine, 28, who was interviewed by CBS affiliate WNCN at the time Jones’ body was discovered, were found on June 3 about 500 feet away from the other women’s remains. Oxendine described herself as a friend of Jones.

The women’s bodies are undergoing autopsies to determine the cause of death. The bodies had no obvious signs of trauma, according to the police report.

An FBI spokesperson told Fox News that the bureau is helping with the investigation.

The man who Patterson was last seen with has been identified by police and is being questioned, Fox News reports.

“We think it’s someone she knew, but we’re not sure,” Lumberton Police Department Captain Terry Parker told Fox News.

Police are investigating Patterson’s disappearance as a missing person case, and are asking anyone with information on any of the women to call (910) 671-3845.

Several sightings of her have been reported, but none confirmed, Parker said.
