Winston Watts, captain of the Jamaica bobsled team, helped lead the team to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Watts and brakeman Marvin Dixon will compete in the two-man bob in the 32-team competition on February 19 and 20, reported AFP.
“It means the world to me,” Watts, 46, told BBC Sport.
“I could not fall asleep last night just waiting to hear the news. I had a strong feeling we would get in but you never know.”
Watt spent $164,000 of his own money on the way to qualification.
The team also raised over $120,000 to get to Sochi.
Watts is a fan of “Cool Runnings,” the popular movie that depicts the true story of the first Jamaican bobsled team.
“It’s a movie you cannot get tired of watching,’’ Watts told TODAY.com. “It’s very touching. It’s so emotional. Even up until today I watch that movie like it’s new. It’s just inspirational.”
Watts participated in the 1994, 198, and 2002 Olympics.
He came out of retirement for the 2014 Olympics.
The team’s success if fueling more interest from Jamaica in winter sports.
Team Jamaica recently said via Twitter that the country could look into speed skating soon.
“It’s a fast sport we could excel in,” it said.
