Paddy Jones, who will turn 80 in July, was easily dismissed by the judges on Britain’s Got Talent, but they showered her with praise after seeing what she could do.
“I apologize,” said judge Simon Cowell, who had hit his buzzer to reject Jones and her dance partner Nico at the beginning of their performance last week. “It was all kind of slow and normal and then it all went ballistic, it was extraordinary,” Cowell said.
Jones started dancing as a child, but gave it up when she got married, she said. When her husband died, they were living in Spain, and she decided to try something different. She went to Nico’s dance academy and revived her talent.
When asked before the performance if she thought she had a chance at winning, Jones said: “It would be very nice, but just as long as people enjoy what we’re doing and we give people pleasure, that’s the main thing.”
