Jessi Smiles was allegedly sexually assaulted by fellow Vine star Curtis Lepore last year, in a case that was only revealed this week.
Lepore was arrested in October and released on $100,000 bail, TMZ revealed on Thursday. He is accused of raping Smiles. Lepore was in court regarding the case earlier this week. He pled not guilty.
According to the lawsuit, Lepore went to Los Angeles in August 2013 to see his then-girlfriend Smiles. Things didn’t go well during the visit, and the pair broke up.
Lepore stayed in town. Smiles was filming a Vine video several days later when she suffered a concussion.
Lepore called Smiles, offering his support. He went over to where she was. And, allegedly, when she fell asleep he raped her.
A day after the situation, Smiles tweeted: “”Be careful of who you trust. Always be cautious for your safety. Be strong and don’t let your guard down…”
Soon after she also tweeted:
-“People are so crazy in this world. Please be safe.”
-“I don’t feel like living on this planet today. Goodbye.”
-“Where are the good people at...any left?”
Lepore addressed the controversy on Twitter on Thursady night, saying that “There are 2 sides to every story. When the time is right I'll have something to say. For now, don’t rush to judge.”
Right after the TMZ story was published he said, “Wow. TMZ? It all makes sense now. Let the second publicity stunt begin!”
Smiles , apparently in connection with the story, tweeted: ““I stopped living my life 6 months ago for a very long time and that is NOT going to happen again. This is all I will say. Love you all.”
She later deleted that tweet.
