Body camera footage shows a Texas police chief giving an infant CPR after the child stopped breathing.

Last week, Splendora Independent School District Police Chief Rex Evans was on patrol at several schools in Splendora, located near Houston, when a man and woman flagged him down, ABC News reported.

The video shows Evans rushing over to a stopped minivan. “I need an ambulance ... for a baby not breathing,” he says. “CPR in progress.”

The woman could be seen holding a newborn baby that was swaddled. She then hands the child, who was only 2 weeks old, over to the officer.

“The baby was very discolored, eyes were rolled back,” Evans told the news outlet.

Evans discovered liquid in the child’s mouth and around his nose. After clearing the fluid, Evans said the baby started to breathe again. He performed CPR for more than a minute.

“Come on, baby,” Evans says as the baby started to cry. “Come on, baby. It’s OK.”

The baby was taken to the hospital when paramedics arrived. The child and the mother are fine, officials told ABC.

“Within about a minute or so, the baby’s eyes rolled back forward, and [he] started immediately breathing and crying. It was just such a relief,” Evans told Click2Houston.

“It was such a relief,” Evans said to ABC.

Other details about the incident are not clear. The body camera footage was released in November.
