At first, the idea seems a little strange.

Then it starts to make sense. “Hiding in plain sight.”

Prominent YouTube video maker Grant Thompson takes the concept to the extreme by taking a jar of miracle whip--this technique also works with most simple jars, such as salad dressing jars--and spray painting the inside.

Why? To make into a safe. Stuff some money and/or other small valuables inside and if your home is robbed, the burglars won’t think to look twice.

FBI data notes that 1 in 36 homes in the United States will be burglarized at some point, with an average loss of $2,230. And with robbers only spending an average of 10.5 minutes in their target homes, there’s little chance they’re wasting time in the fridge.

Sure, this isn’t the only measure you should take to bolster your security, but it’s a smart way to have a little peace of mind about some of your valuables.

Simply buy some spray paint and go to work. A cat food can and sandpaper are optional, but can help make the “safe” even better.
