TAIPEI, Taiwan—Internationally-acclaimed Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company performed at Taipei’s Dr. Sun Yat-sun Memorial Hall on March 22 on its current tour of Taiwan. Political and business elites were in the audience. Vice-president of The Control Yuan of the Republic of China, Mr. Chen Jinn-Lih, had abundant praise for Shen Yun after the performance.
Mr. Chen said that Shen Yun was not only a feast for the senses, but it was full of profound spirituality and is nothing less than a world-class performance.
He said that he watched a short introduction video of Shen Yun at a Rotary Club meeting recently and was deeply impressed, and he had been looking forward to seeing the performance.
After the performance he said: “Every program was wonderful. Joyful Little Monks was very humorous, and the dance artists in Qing Imperial Guards not only had solid dance skills to perform those difficult movements, but also were able to portray the feelings of strength and gentleness.” He said it was indeed worthy of the name Shen Yun, which in Chinese means divinely elegant. “It was really fantastic. We don’t normally see this type of performance these days.”
He was also impressed by the flowing colors of the backdrops. “The colors were not the same as the average colors,” he said. “The green was different. The blue was also blue in a very special way. The yellow and red was faint but very bright.” All the colors in every backdrop gave him the feeling of spiritual flowing, cleanliness, and joyfulness. He said it felt “like being in the presence of gods.”
“One’s heart became tranquil. The true, the good, and the beautiful were all manifested.” Mr. Chen said, adding that with the rich colors, together with the music and the dancing, it was a truly overwhelming audio-visual feast. “I really admire the choreographers and the director. It is the most successful performance. I’ve never seen anything so tremendous.”
Mr. Chen said that it’s really great that Shen Yun Performing Arts promotes traditional Chinese culture all around the world with its three equally large companies. As a civil servant in the supervisory organs of the government, he would like to see the government actively promote cultural events, such as offering subsidies for artistic and cultural events, and also encouraging civil servants to participate.
