WASHINGTON—The World Bank will reduce lending to China, said the bank’s new president, David Malpass, who has been a longtime critic of Beijing and its ambitious One Belt, One Road Initiative (OBOR).

In economic terms, China has evolved over the past few decades and become much stronger, Malpass said at a press conference on April 11. According to him, China is no longer a developing country that depends on loans from the bank.
