Virginians are heading to the polls today, their off-year Election Day. All 140 legislative seats in both chambers of the Commonwealth are up for grabs for the first time since redistricting in 2021; many county and local level officials will also be elected.

The Republicans are aiming for a Republican trifecta, which would enable them to achieve more of their goals—such as requiring schools to involve parents if their minor children identify as a gender that is different from their biological sex, a bill for which was defeated by the Democrat-led state Senate in the latest legislative session.
