A woman who slammed into a metal barrier in New Jersey, killing a backseat passenger, was driving without a license, according to police.
The horrible scene unfolded in Jersey City in the early morning on Saturday, Jan. 27.
Khalla Nguyen was killed when driver Khadija Hamilton slammed into a barrier on Newark Avenue just after 3 a.m., the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Hamilton is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, death by auto, and driving unlicensed and causing death.
She was driving unlicensed, according to officials.
“Makes me very sad. I knew her well. She was a student of mine and she played volleyball for me. I coached her. Such a sweet, nice, and smart girl. Never gave me a problem. She always did her best. It touches deep when you realize you had direct contact with the deceased. I hope she was not involved with nonsense,” said Christine Padilla.
Hunnit Gran, a friend, posted on the page that she was in “unbearable” pain since the news broke.
“It’s crazy I wish they could’ve heard you sing, that was your dream. But they saw you and the smile that you brought to another face and many others, that energy you gave off. There was plenty of videos and pictures that was posted by your loved ones that were nothing but smiles and good moments,” she said.
Added Ajeemah Shaw, “Just still seems surreal, so many ppl are going to miss you being such a ball of light.”
