When Democrat President Joe Biden delivers his annual State of the Union (SOTU) address on Thursday, former President Donald Trump will be reacting publicly in real time.

President Trump announced on Wednesday that he would be making “play-by-play” commentary on his Truth Social platform while his political opponent speaks live on national TV.

“I will correct, in rapid response, any and all inaccurate Statements,” President Trump said in a Truth Social post.

“It is important for the Country to get the TRUTH!” he wrote.

The Epoch Times’ sister outlet, NTD, will begin its special coverage of the SOTU at 8 p.m. Eastern, one hour before the scheduled start of President Biden’s speech, at NTD.com.

In his live critiques, President Trump said he will focus especially on correcting any alleged inaccuracies about two hot topics: the U.S.-Mexico border crisis and President Biden’s alleged “weaponization” of federal and state agencies to target President Trump for political reasons. He faces 91 criminal charges in four separate cases and says he has done nothing wrong.

The former president did a similar “play-by-play“ analysis during President Biden’s third SOTU, which occurred in February 2023, prior to any criminal charges being filed against President Trump. At that time, the former president posted on Truth Social that he was offering the commentary ”by popular request.”

Trump Wants Debates

This year’s SOTU and the promised live critiques come just after President Trump’s sole remaining intraparty challenger, Nikki Haley, dropped out of Republican primary.

Her departure on March 6, a day after she lost 14 out of 15 Super Tuesday contests, came the same day that Democrat Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota discontinued his campaign challenging President Biden. Although Democrat challenger Marianne Williamson reentered the race after briefly exiting, President Biden faces no formidable opposition.

As a result, a Trump-Biden rematch has become a near-certainty.

In light of that probability, President Trump renewed his call for President Biden to participate in a live debate. The former president skipped all debates with his GOP rivals, stating that he was far outdistancing them in opinion polls and stood nothing to gain by participating.

However, he believes that a debate between the two major parties’ leading candidates is needed.

“It is important, for the good of our country, that Joe Biden and I debate issues that are so vital to America, and the American People,” President Trump wrote Wednesday in a separate Truth Social post. “Therefore, I am calling for debates, anytime, anywhere, anyplace!”

He closed his communique to President Biden in the same manner typically used to conclude business correspondence, stating, “I look forward to receiving a response. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

The two men previously debated while both were seeking the presidency in 2020. President Trump and many other people continue to dispute the outcome of that election, alleging that irregularities boosted then-candidate Joe Biden’s voter totals. But President Biden and his supporters have maintained that he won legitimately.

President Trump made no mention of debating Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as an independent.
