A 29-year-old male-born skateboarder who sparked a social media outrage after defeating young girls to claim the championship in a women’s skateboarding contest in New York City has boasted about the win, insisting on having no physical advantage over female competitors.

Ricci Tres, from Los Angeles, on Jun. 25 took first place in the Boardr Open women’s finals and brought home a $500 prize, dethroning last year’s winner, 13-year-old Shiloh Catori from Florida. Tres also outperformed four other adolescent finalists, with the youngest being 10-year-old Juri Iikura of Brooklyn, who came in fifth.
