Supreme Court Rules 9–0 for Pet Owners in Pet Food Fraud Case

The ruling was made after the Eighth Circuit held the lawsuit should be heard in state court because federal law claims were removed from the suit.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously on Jan. 15 in favor of pet owners, finding a state court may consider their lawsuit against pet food makers after the consumers withdrew their federal claims.

Justice Elena Kagan wrote the 9–0 opinion in Royal Canin U.S.A. Inc. v. Wullschleger.
