States Push to Rein In Big Tech as Federal Gears Grind Slow

States are moving with urgency in seeking to rein in alleged abuses by big tech companies, while the federal government is preoccupied with COVID-19 relief and former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.

Spurred by various motivations such as fighting censorship, shoring up data privacy protections of constituents, or looking to punish or raise revenue from cash-flush companies they say have grown rich by abusing their dominant market position to the detriment of smaller players, states are ramping up measures to take on Big Tech.
