The 45-caliber handgun used in the Nov. 14 shooting at Saugus High School in Santa, Clarita, Calif. was a “kit gun” assembled from parts, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva confirmed today on Twitter.

The 1911-model pistol has a partially built receiver and is described as a “ghost gun,” meaning it was not registered and has no serial number.
