ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y.—New York state Sen. James Skoufis announced on Jan. 8 that his bill allowing bars and restaurants to purchase small amounts of alcohol from local liquor stores was signed into law.

Skoufis said during a press conference at Delancey’s Bar & Restaurant in the Village of Goshen that the new law will allow bars, restaurants, and other such places to buy up to six bottles of wine or liquor per week from local liquor stores. He said the estimated savings for small businesses, which will be able to circumvent larger distributors, will be $5,000 to $10,000 per year.
