A report by The New York Times on June 24 revealed new details about Ali Watkins, a reporter with the paper currently at the center of an ethics investigation.
A Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation found that Watkins began a romantic relationship with James Wolfe, the director of security for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, prior to working for the newspaper. Wolfe was arrested on June 7 and charged with lying to investigators about his contacts with Watkins and three other journalists.
