Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has signed into effect a redistricting measure, Senate Bill 258, that marks the first time in nearly 200 years that five of the Buckeye State’s major cities all are located within one congressional district.
The redistricting follows the 2020 Census and cuts the number of Ohio’s legislative districts from 16 to 15, but increases the number of competitive districts in the state. The new district map will go into effect for Ohio’s 2022 legislative elections, DeWine announced on Nov. 22.
