The grand opening of the exhibition is set for March 8 at 5 p.m. and will include an award ceremony, a reception, and a live figure drawing session.
The art exhibit is an effort by HSArts to celebrate the richness of traditional art and promote communication among Realist artists while giving students a valuable experience on their artistic journey.

The art contributed by students showcases their dedication to building strong fundamental skills. The pieces include numerous Classical Realism Charles Bargue plate studies, still life compositions, monochromatic and color oil painting studies, and traditional Chinese paintings.
The exhibition will also feature portraits and historical-themed oil paintings contributed by the school’s talented teachers as well as artwork from people of the art community.

Lucy Cui, a teacher at HSArts, told The Epoch Times in an email: “When artists create, they share their thoughts and emotions with their audience. Since the inception of oil painting, it has evolved through various periods and styles, from realism to modern art. Our school firmly believes in the existence of standards in art, where only creations that inspire audiences with pure goodness and beauty are valued. To achieve this, artists must possess strong fundamental skills to bring their ideas to fruition.”
She added that by showcasing the skillful artwork, the school aims to inspire its students and also encourage others, including art enthusiasts, to recognize the importance of traditional art and foundational skills.

The Significance for San Francisco

Ms. Cui said that San Francisco, a city renowned for its art and inclusiveness, has so many young artists who want to improve their art skills and visualize their ideas, but the schools do not have enough resources to give them a strong foundation and are often too focused on different styles and creativity.
She said this exhibition is to serve as a reminder that creativity is built upon the sturdy foundation of fundamental skills.

“At the heart of art lies principles that drive techniques, and beauty that drives principles. While we may explore different styles or themes, the essence of art remains rooted in inspiring people and making a meaningful impact,” she said.
HSArts is unique to the Bay Area because it is the only private arts school for students in grades 6–12. It has a highly credentialed staff with a holistic approach that is able to provide students with individualized support. It is the only high school art program in the United States approved by the Art Renewal Center.
The school challenges its students to achieve self-mastery through professional arts training and academic studies. It teaches traditional and universal values that transcend all cultures, developing its students to make a positive contribution to the world. Prior students have gone on to attend top universities, pursuing the arts as well as other fields.
