The West Memphis Police Department released dashcam video footage that shows a police chase and shooting along Interstate 40.

Ronald Clinton, 46, was seen shoplifting at a Walmart in Arkansas, according to police. He then left the store in a black Altima and began driving on I-40, WMC Action News reported.

When police saw him, they attempted to pull him over. He refused and proceeded to drive faster.

Clinton can be seen hitting several police cars on I-40 before police were able to box him in.

The suspect was able to escape the box made by police cruisers before driving down I-40. Later, he started to drive in the wrong direction before crashing into a truck.

One officer fired several shots, and the officer said he opened fire because Clinton tried to run him over, according to the report.

Fox13 in Memphis reported that an officer at one point exited his vehicle and shouted commands at Clinton. Clinton “accelerated and started driving toward him. He had his service weapon drawn and fired several shots into the vehicle,” according to the report.

A coroner said that he died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The chase hit speeds of around 120 mph as other drivers on the road attempted to get out of the way, according to Fox13.

No officers were injured in the incident, which took place in May 2018. The video footage of the chase was released in August.

West Memphis is a city in Arkansas located just across the Mississippi River from Memphis, Tennessee.
