A San Bernardino County man convicted in September of operating a so-called birth tourism scheme was sentenced on Dec. 16 to 41 months in federal prison.

Michael Liu, 59, of Rancho Cucamonga, charged Chinese clients as much as six figures to guide them in navigating the U.S. visa system, giving birth in the United States, and obtaining birthright U.S. citizenship for their babies, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.
