California Freelancers Struggling to Get Aid Amid Pandemic

As unemployment skyrockets, California freelance workers find it difficult to qualify for aid—and if they have worked any hours as a part-time employee, it becomes even more difficult.

In a May 14 news release, the state’s Employment Development Department (EDD) announced 4.7 million unemployment claims had been processed since March 14—more than 350,000 in the second week of May alone.
