California state lawmakers convened a special session on Dec. 2 to prepare for the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump, with the goal of countering potential federal policy decisions related to environmental protections, abortion, and illegal immigrants, among others.

Gov. Gavin Newsom requested in early November that the session take place with a proclamation asking lawmakers to provide the resources needed for “litigation preparation.”
