The labeling initiative makes it easier for consumers to buy American products, said the secretary of agriculture.

Ten additional meat and poultry companies have opted to use the “Product of USA” label on their products, making it easier for Americans to identify domestically sourced food items.

The companies are California-based Harris Ranch and One World Beef, Idaho-based Agri Beef, Georgia-based FPL Food, Hadrick Farms from South Dakota, Texas-based Fort Worth Meats, Wholestone Farms from Nebraska, Harrison’s Poultry in Illinois, Iowa-based Upper Iowa Beef, and American Foods Group from Wisconsin, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in a July 10 statement.

Product of USA is a voluntary labeling standard that came into effect on Jan. 1. The label applies to meat, poultry, and processed egg products. In addition to the new companies, early adopters of the Product of USA label include Wayne Sanderson, Greater Omaha, Didier Ranch, and All American Meats Inc.

For items containing only a single ingredient, the label is only applicable if the animal is born, raised, harvested, and processed fully within the United States. For items with multiple ingredients, every component, except spices and flavorings, must be sourced domestically. In addition, all preparation and processing steps should have also taken place in the United States.

“When American families see this label, they can trust they’re buying products that are born, raised, harvested, and processed right HERE in the United States,” Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said in a July 10 post on X, while announcing the recent set of companies.

“We’re putting American producers FIRST and making it easier than ever to Buy American.”

The USDA had launched a nationwide public awareness campaign on Product of USA labels in late March to inform companies about the measure and increase consumer understanding.

In a March 24 statement, the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association had welcomed the awareness campaign.

Clarifying that the Product of USA label can only appear on products from animals that were born, raised, harvested, and processed in the United States is crucial, it said.

“This closes long‑standing loopholes that allowed foreign products to be labeled in ways that misled consumers about where their food came from,” it said.

In its latest statement, the USDA said that several food processors have committed to using the Product of USA label since the department launched the nationwide awareness campaign earlier this year. In addition, more companies are expected to adopt the label over the coming months.

The expansion of the label complements President Donald Trump’s and Rollins’s broader strategy to boost the country’s beef industry, the USDA said.

According to the department, it is creating new market opportunities for fully American food products from pasture to plate.

“Origin should never be a mystery. Consumers deserve labels they can trust, U.S. producers deserve recognition for what they produce, and every meat product should be represented honestly for what it is,” Juan Ramos, CEO of Fort Worth Meats, said in a statement.

Assisting Beef Producers

On June 30, the USDA announced another measure to help beef processors—the Strengthening Processing for U.S. Ranchers (SPUR) Program.

Under the program, the USDA will offer up to $500 million in financial support to eligible beef processors who have faced rising costs while acquiring cattle for processing.

The department highlighted that America’s beef processing industry is largely controlled by just four companies, including two that are foreign-owned. Ensuring domestic processors can continue their operations at a time when the cattle herd is at a 75-year low is critical to national security, the USDA said.

Through the SPUR program, “USDA is taking targeted action to preserve the independent processing capacity that ranchers rely on, strengthen competition across the American beef supply chain, and support rural communities across the country,” Rollins said.

“As we Make America Healthy Again, we are working to ensure American families have continued access to nutritious, high-quality American beef.”

In the recent statement, the USDA said that SPUR and the Product of USA labeling initiative are complementary efforts aimed at strengthening the domestic meat supply chain and expanding opportunities for independent producers.

Many companies participating in the Product of USA initiative are also expected to benefit from the SPUR program.
