Former “Today” co-host Ann Curry said in a new interview that the “meanness” at the NBC morning show shouldn’t be tolerated.
Curry was speaking during a guest co-host appearance on “The View” on ABC Tuesday morning, Jan. 23.
Sunny Hostin, one of the hosts of the morning show, asked Curry “how bad” the situation with Matt Lauer has become for the network. She also asked what role Megyn Kelly, who went to NBC from Fox News, has played in changing the culture there.
Curry, who was pushed out of her co-host role by Lauer in 2012, told Hostin: “The decision is really what the viewers will accept or not accept.”
Curry declined to say anything bad about Lauer himself when pressed by “The View” hosts, instead saying the focus should be on the victims of sexual abuse.
“What we are now waking up to is that enough is enough! That we don’t need to put up with this...what we really need to focus on is the victims,” she said.
Lauer was fired in November after a former colleague accused him of inappropriate sexual interaction during the Winter Olympics in 2014.
“I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly…repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full-time job.”
