CHIAYI, Taiwan—Mr. Chunchieh Huang, professor of the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company’s matinee performance in Chiayi with his wife on April 4.
Marveling at the backdrops, dances, music, costumes, vocals, lyrics, and the cultural connotations, he exclaimed, “Perfect! Overwhelming! Seamless coordination!”
Watching the Shen Yun performance for the first time, professor Huang expressed that he felt overwhelmed by the magnificent backdrops and drum beats as soon as the curtain opened. He explained, “The Shen Yun performance was really different from other shows. Especially, when the backdrops changed according to the content of stories performed on stage. The virtual images were transformed into reality on stage. It requires very accurate positioning to do that. This really touched me very much!”
The combination of Chinese and Western instruments in the Shen Yun Orchestra not only demonstrated the musical characteristics of the Chinese culture but also displayed the elegant and vigorous melody of music. It has deeply moved many critical conductors and musicians around the world as well as professor Huang. He said, “The live orchestra coordinated with the dancers so well … It was fabulous!”
Mr. Huang found incredible the colors of the costumes that he said were so bright and unique, and the visual effects on the stage were so wonderful. He added, “The colors used by Shen Yun, coupled with the wonderful dancing skills, made the performance very beautiful. It showcased the Oriental beauty as well as the contemporary concept of aesthetics. It is something that modern people can learn from.”
The solo vocalists’ bel canto singing skills and their perfect articulation deeply moved Mr. Huang. He said, “The lyrics are very meaningful, and the solo vocalists’ singing skills are outstanding. I love vocal music very much, and the accompaniment music was perfect.
“In addition, the masters of ceremonies’ performance is also very good. All these are the reasons that I am deeply moved. I’ve perceived the niche to promote the Chinese culture in the future!”
