It was no surprise to fans that Joe Carroll and Ryan Hardy, from FOX hit TV series, “The Following” came together in the season finale of season 2. But, what fans are wondering is – will they be back for a third season?

Luckily, FOX has approved for season 3, but audiences are anxiously waiting for the start date. Will Ryan Hardy have a new target? Will Joe Carroll be sentenced to death and escape again? Or better yet, what will be the new plot for the entire show?

There has been a lot of talk about the show’s random acts of violence and series creator, Kevin Williamson explained, “I think we got a little bit too caught up in the violence. However, the DNA of the show, in terms of it being a thriller and having lots of twists and turns, is what we don’t want to change.”

Producers and writers for “The Following” did a great job with not leaving audiences on their edge of their seats. However, the season finale did leave everyone asking a lot of questions.

The biggest question was how come Ryan did not kill Joe? Are they too much alike? And if Ryan did, in fact kill Joe, would he be killing a part of himself? Marco Siega, executive producer explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “ The ideas we were playing with for next year all service what Joe Carroll being alive for a while, how it [affects] Ryan Hardy as a character.” Siega also said that Carroll won’t play a big role as he has in the past two seasons physically, but mentally, for Ryan, Joe might play a huge role.

Fans are predicting that season 3 will air sometime in January 2015; however, there is no specific start date yet. Season 1 premiered on January 21, 2013; and season 2 on January 19, 2014. Both ended in late April.

Until the next season does start, more questions will be asked and more predictions will be made.
