The quick thinking of some teachers helped to prevent a loss of life from occurring.

A student at a high school in Texas reportedly attempted to commit suicide early Thursday morning on Nov. 30.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the male student was found by a teacher at 6:30 a.m. at Glenda Dawson High School, located in Pearland, Texas.

The young boy was attempting to hang himself in a stairwell, just before school started.

However, three teachers came to the rescue and managed to save the boy’s life by lowering him from the rope and performing first aid until police officers arrived, the Houston Chronicle reported.

At the time, a teacher just happened to be using the stairs near the third floor when she noticed the student. According to KPRC, the teacher called for help before two male coaches came rushing to the scene.

“Had it been a mere few more seconds, no telling what condition the boy would’ve been in,” Jason Wells spokesman for the Pearland Police Department told the Houston Chronicle.

Wells also confirmed that at least three teachers came to help the student.

Later Pearland medical staff arrived at the scene and airlifted the student to a hospital in downtown Houston. According to KPRC, the boy was airlifted by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

As of writing on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 30, the boy’s condition and identity had not been revealed.

Police stated that he was alive when he arrived at the hospital, according to KPRC.

A father of a student who goes to Dawson told KPRC he would talk to his daughter to “make sure she understands that a lot of people going through things (when) they are very young, and whatever they are going through ... they should be able to overcome because there’s a lot more in life they can look forward to.”

No students witnessed the attempted suicide.

Classes at the school are running normally on Thursday, but extra counselors were brought in from other schools to help, in case students need it.
