Celebrated Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli and his wife, Veronica, also a singer, share a romantic history of fairytale status. One of their most beloved collaborations, a beautiful duet sung in Italy, perfectly exemplifies their compatible relationship.

The couple’s duet was performed and filmed in the small Italian village of Portofino in October 2015. Bocelli and Veronica sang the famous “Qualche Stupido“ together to an enraptured crowd, and the duet has since gone down in history as one of the most harmonious ever sung by a husband-and-his-wife couple.

The song, translated into Italian from the original “Something Stupid,” is the same romantic duet made famous by Frank and Nancy Sinatra back in 1967. Bocelli and Veronica breathed Italian life into the loving ditty by singing to one another in the intimate, port-side setting; to date, the footage of the couple’s duet has been viewed over 2.9 million times on YouTube by a worldwide audience of fans.
“When we were in the studio making this album,” the master of ceremonies begins at the start of the video segment, addressing the audience, “we wanted to do this next song and we wanted somebody to demo it. So Andrea said, ‘Well, my beautiful love, Veronica, she sings of course.’”

“She came and she sang the demo,” the MC continues, “and we loved it so much that we begged her to do it with Andrea tonight.”

Backed by the Portofino Orchestra, the couple’s performance was flawless. Not only do the world-famous tenor and his wife share romantic harmony in their relationship, they share melodic harmony on the stage, to boot.

Viewers responded with loving, affirmative messages when the couple’s performance was shared online. “I defy anyone to find a more romantic video than this,” wrote one YouTube viewer. “Andrea Bocelli and his wife singing ‘Something Stupid’ in Italian to a crowd of people in the beautiful backdrop of Portofino. Magnifico!”

“Amazing song by Andrea and Veronica, perfect duo,” added another. “All the musicians are simply first class, especially the guitarist.”

The sonically spectacular harmonies between Bocelli and Veronica were the product of many years spent together in a loving partnership. It all began at a party, when Bocelli requested the company of the young singer at his table.

“Veronica and I met at a party 12 years ago,” Bocelli explained to The Guardian in November 2014, “and I was struck by her voice and how her skin felt. I sang my first aria for her that night.” Music, Bocelli explained, has always been at the foundation of his relationship with Veronica.

“It was the quickest, speediest start,” said the tenor, “because we moved in with each other that same night. Effectively the marriage began when we met.”

“I was 18 and meant to be going somewhere else that night,” music manager Veronica née Berti added, telling her side of the story. “Everyone was late because of bad weather, so I sat by the piano in an empty room. Andrea sent a friend to ask me to come to his table.”

As per Classic FM, the couple officially tied the knot in a beautiful, intimate ceremony at Sanctuary of Madonna di Montenero in Tuscany, Italy. The ceremony took place on March 21, 2014. Bocelli was 55 when they wed; Veronica was 30.
“I think the 25-year age gap has made it easier, not harder,” Bocelli reflected, speaking to The Guardian. “Big age gaps are a tradition in my family; my own father and mother have one. Plus, I am very religious, and age difference is something you see a lot in biblical marriages.”

The couple’s longevity, and their moving harmonies, are testament to their compatibility in both life and music.
