Ted Agu Dead: University of California Football Player Dies During Training

Ted Agu, a University of California football player, died on Friday during a conditioning workout.

He was 21.

“This is a very difficult time for our football family,” Cal coach Sonny Dykes said in a statement. “Ted was a remarkable young man and a member of this family who was highly respected and loved by his teammates and coaching staff. He had an incredible passion for life and will be deeply missed.”

Agu was going to be a senior, and was a backup defensive end.

The football team said via Twitter: “Ted Agu was a tremendous human being and someone our student-athletes looked up to. He will be greatly missed.”

Agu was an honor roll student at Frontier High School in Bakersfield, California before going to college, according to his bio. 

He was a public health major in college.
