A Syrian forensic medicine expert has defected to Turkey and is expected to make public evidence that President Bashar Assad’s regime perpetrated a chemical weapons attack, reported Reuters Tuesday morning.

Abdeltawwab Shahrour was head of the forensic medicine committee in Aleppo. He has evidence of a chemical attack on March 19 in Khan al-Assal, rather than the August 21 attack recently investigated by the United Nations in Damascus.

A Syrian opposition coalition spokesperson informed Reuters of Shahrour’s intentions to reveal his evidence.
