A new character has been confirmed for Super Smash Bros 4 by game director Masahiro Sakurai.

The character is Shulk from Zenoblade Chronicles, an addition that will likely surprise many gamers.

“He’s not the type of character that would usually appear in the Smash Bros. series, but we worked really hard to make it happen,” Sakurai said.

“We’re very happy with how he turned out. This stage is Gaur Plain.”

Many fans reacted positively to the news.

“I look forward to playing as Shulk, having all those interchangeable symbols and modes on his sword looks like it'll be a fun way to battle ^3^,” said one.

“Woah, sakurai you’ve really outdone yourself this time!” added another.

The 3DS version of the game is slated for release on October 3 while the Wii U version will be out this winter.
