The Chinese regime has made a big bet on Afghanistan. As the United States withdrew its troops from the country, the Chinese Communist Party used it for propaganda to criticize Washington and promote its own form of government against the U.S. model.
Yet as China plays a larger role in the region and looks to build major infrastructure projects, how will it handle the terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan and the surrounding countries, and their often competing interests? How will the Chinese regime address allegations of genocide against Muslim Uyghurs in China? As the war in Afghanistan comes to an end, how will the United States reposition its military to focus more on the growing China challenge? What role has Pakistan played in the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, and is it possible China may have played a part?
