Southampton’s Victor Wanyama and Jos Hooiveld are injury doubts, Wanyama with an unspecified injury, and Hooiveld with an eye problem.

Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho and Lucas Leiva have returned to full training, though Lucas is not expected to travel to St. Mary’s.

Having won the earlier fixture 3-1, Southampton look to give visitors Liverpool a tough time. The Saints need to bounce back from their defeat last weekend to West Ham United by a similar score line (3-1), however, if they want to cause problems for the potential title challengers.

Liverpool’s shaky defense may not prove to be too hard for Southampton’s strikers to probe. Despite scoring an impressive 70 goals in 27 matches, the Reds backline has also shipped 35 goals. Only one team in the top half of the table (Newcastle) has conceded more goals (38). If Brendan Rodger’s men are to stay in the title race, they have to plug their defensive holes and count on the lethal scoring boots of current league top scorer Luis Suarez (23) and Daniel Sturridge (18) to deliver results.
