Sony's PS3 Slim

Rumors of a new Sony Playstation 3 hitting stores for the holiday season are confirmed, but no wind of a PS 4 has hit. This morning Sony revealed the release of a mega slim, mega memory packed 500 GB console plus its more economical 12GB cousin at the Tokyo Game Show.

Available starting September 28th, 2012, these new PS3 systems are not the PS4 so many Sony fans dreamed of, but Sony has come through with enough goodies to gather a few more fans til PS4. Along with the 500 gig console, gamers also get the new  FIFA 13 bundle. The 12GB slimline also offers value for the budget conscious being priced at around €229.99.

Options are included in the announcement, of course, and those include; an official PlayStation 250GB internal HDD, and PS3 Essentials titles at special pricing. Select title’s are priced as low as €14.99 and include:

  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBig Planet
  • The Fight
  • Assassin’s Creed I & II
  • Far Cry 2
  • Prince of Persia
  • and many more

Slimmer, lighter, with more storage, and a bit more economical when all is said and done, the news from Sony almost lives up to holiday expectations of a Santa delivered PS4. Note I said “almost”. Even the offering of PS3 in Charcoal Black and Classic White, game title deals, whatever, simply amounts to a Sony upgrade for most people. PlayStation Vita stuff streaming from Tokyo actually overshadows the console’s re-skinning.
