The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Milford Bay Trout Farm Inc. have warned the public not to consume the company’s Smoked Trout Fillet because it might contain a life-threatening bacteria.

CFIA says the product, which has been distributed in Ontario, might be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum which may cause botulism, a relatively rare but serious type of food poisoning.

There have been no reported cases of illnesses so far.

Some of the symptoms that could manifest after consumption of contaminated food include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, headache, double vision, dry mouth and throat, respiratory failure, and paralysis.

In severe cases, the illness could be fatal.

The product recall by the manufacturer is voluntary. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
