Shellie Zimmerman has filed for divorce from George Zimmerman on September 5.
Shellie Zimmerman filed for divorce during the afternoon, reported Matt Gutman of ABC.
Robert Zimmerman Jr. confirmed the divorce with Jorge Gonzalez of Fox News.
George Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder after fatally shooting unarmed black youth Trayvon Martin in Florida last year. He was acquitted in July of this year.
Shellie Zimmerman pled guilty to perjury during the case.
She said in an interview with ABC recently that she and George lived in a trailer in the woods for a year and a half while they were waiting for the trial.
“I think we have been pretty much like gypsies…We’ve lived in a 20-foot trailer in the woods, scared every night that someone was going to find us and that we'd be out in the woods alone and that it would be horrific,” she said.
