AP: Liverpool agree fee for Sevilla defender Moreno

LIVERPOOL, England—Liverpool says it has reached an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of defender Alberto Moreno.

The Premier League club confirmed the impending move for the 22-year-old, after he was withdrawn from the Sevilla’s squad for its 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final on Tuesday.

“The Reds will proceed with the formalities of finalising the deal,” said a statement on the club’s official website.

Moreno will travel to Merseyside for a medical and is set to become manager Brendan Rodgers’ eighth summer signing following the capture of Southampton trio Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert. Lazar Markovic, Emre Can, Javier Maquillo and Divock Origi have also joined the Anfield club.

Liverpool host Southampton on Sunday in their season opener.
