When a woman from Barstow, California, was forced to leave her home at short notice, she packed up her important belongings and threw everything else out with the trash. Tragically, that included her two pet dogs.
The dogs were locked into a wire cage without food or water and left out on the sidewalk under the baking-hot sun. Allen Boartfield, a volunteer with California’s Dream Fetchers: Project Rescue, was called by a distressed passerby. “I was contacted about them at 8 a.m.,” Boartfield told The Dodo. “I was given an intersection and told I couldn’t miss them.”
