Royal Family Members Rush to Queen Elizabeth’s Side as She Is Placed Under Medical Supervision

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace has said.

On Thursday, Buckingham Palace released a statement at 12:32 p.m. outlining that “following further evaluation this morning, the ”Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.”

The Palace added that The Queen, who turned 96 this year, remains “comfortable” and at Balmoral, her home in the Scottish Highlands.

Members of the Royal Family have been informed and are travelling to Scotland.

The Prince of Wales (Prince Charles), The Duchess of Cornwall (Camilla), and The Princess Royal (Princess Anne) are at Balmoral.

The Duke of Cambridge (Prince William), Duke of York (Prince Andrew), and The Earl (Prince Edward) and Countess of Wessex (Sophie) are either at the Queen’s bedside or travelling to be with her.

The Duke & Duchess of Sussex (Prince Harry and Meghan) are also making their way to Scotland.

ITV Royal Editor Chris Ship said in a post on Twitter, “This is a serious situation.”

BBC One has suspended all programming until 6 p.m. for coverage of the Queen’s health. BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond said that the news meant that “there is a degree of seriousness that we have not seen before.”

“The phrasing of the statement, that the Queen’s doctors are concerned about her health and she remains under medical supervision, and the movement of the most serious members of the Royal Family towards Balmoral, towards the Queen, all of those indicate a clear degree of concern for the health of the 96-year-old Queen,” said Dymond.

“We’re not going to get great clarity from the palace, because they do not reveal the details of the health of senior members of the Royal Family,” he added.

The Queen has had ongoing mobility issues and used a walking stick during Prime Minister Liz Truss’s Sept. 6 audience, which followed a visit from outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson as he tendered his resignation.

Truss said “the whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime,” adding “my thoughts—and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom—are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time.”

Elizabeth II is the first British monarch in history to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.
