‘Rent is too damn high’: Jimmy McMillan, who famously said that New York’s “rent is too damn high,” recently reiterated his claims and will try to run for mayor of the city.

McMillan released a “Rent is Too Damn High” anthem on YouTube this week, which features him rapping.

“Rent and the deficit is too damn high. Poverty and unemployment both up in the sky. Wages and education is too damn low. Economic recovery is too damn slow,” McMillan says in the video, as he is shown in front of New York City landmarks.

Two years ago, when he ran for New York governor and became a viral sensation that ultimately turned into a meme on Reddit, 9gag.com, and similar websites.

“People workin’ eight hours a day, forty hours a week, and a third job,” he says. “Others can’t afford to feed their children breakfast, lunch, and dinner.”

The New York Times reported that his video was produced by AnimalNewYork.

“Animal isn’t in the business of endorsing candidates, but we did want to help him get that message out,” the group said.
