LG Screen of new UHDTV

For those of you edgy to max out your credit cards this gift giving and receiving season, news from LG offers one high tech solution to your problem. The company’s release of their first 4K TV in the U.S tells of big, big, big screen enjoyment at a price.

Not everybody is a fan of giant TV screen wonders, there is this guy in Hoboken who still prefers his B&W Motorola from the 60’s. For the rest of us TV fans though, LG’s 84-inch 84LM9600 is an ultra high definition wonder is a LED display with native “Ultra High Definition” resolution of 3,840 x 2,160. Available for pre-orders, the price tag of $19,999.00 may cause holiday shoppers to hold off for a markdown though.

Billing the set “Four Times the Resolution, Four Times the WOW” LG’s fabulous idiot box does have unimaginable potential. And “unimagineable” technology is another reason many shoppers will lay off buying either this or Sony’s soon to be sold mega TVs, the devices support technologies and resolutions that scarcely even exist. The disclaimer on LG’s site reflects this:

“*No ”ultra high definition“ or ”4K“ video content is currently available. No broadcast or other standard currently exists for ”4K“ or ”ultra high definition“ television and the 84LM9800 may not be compatible with such standards if and when developed.”

The 4K TV XBR-84X900 form Sony will arrive next month to compete in this space, but unless the BBC decides to relive their London 2012 broadcasts in UHDTV on a broader scale (Olympic fans saw broadcasts across London), your 20 grand may just be an investment in future enjoyment. Back to the “plus” side of this news, the LG TV also has CINEMA 3D technology and the Smart TV ecosystem that features some 1k apps plus.

Regardless of the limitations of price and available content, Ultra HD is the coming entertainment wavelength. For those of you so inclined, the all new 84LM9600 is available in store only as of yesterday at the Video & Audio Centers in California. The basic specs from LG are listed below.
