Raymond Fortun announced his resignation as Cedric Lee’s lawyer and spokesman in the Vhong Navarro case.

Fortun told Lee of the resignation in a letter that was obtained by ABS-CBN.

Fortun said that a major reason he resigned is that someone from Lee’s group made a statement without the consent of Fortun and the group’s other counsels.

The statement was likely Deniece Cornejo’s statement that Lee kissing her in the elevator of her building, revealed in new CCTV footage, was innocent and didn’t really mean anything.

Fortun said the other reason is Filipino’s unpreparedness “to temper their emotions in light of your Constitutional rights to due process, to counsel of your choice, to present a valid and lawful defense, and to confront your accusers in the proper legal setting.”

“The past several days had made me realize that this country is NOT YET READY to accept these legal concepts, to which I squarely lay the blame on inaccurate reportage and the unprofessional actions of certain law enforcement agencies,” he wrote in the letter.
