Beijing—Chiang Pin-kung , chairman of Republic of China (R.O.C, also known as Taiwan) Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) leading a delegation visiting China, arrived in Beijing on the afternoon of June 11. It has been 10 years since the former SEF chairman Koo Chen-fu made a visit to Beijing. Koo passed away in 2005.

China’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office executive deputy director Zheng Lizhong welcomed Chiang and other delegates at the airport with a simple ceremony. Chiang did not give a speech.

China’s Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) Chair Chen Yunlin will hold talks with Chiang on June 12 in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, to re-initiate regular meetings and negotiations between the two organizations that have been stopped for the past ten years. Two agreements — “Weekend Direct Cross-Strait Charter Flights” and “Taiwan’s Opening to Mainland Tourist” are expected to be signed on June 13.
