Queen Elizabeth II left the King Edward VII Hospital in London; where she was being treated for the stomach flu, also know as gastroenteritis.
Gastroenteritis involves inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, including the stomach and the small intestine. The effects can include nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever.
The queen walked out of the hospital unassisted and smiling.
“The queen has left the King Edward VII’s Hospital having been admitted briefly as part of the assessment of symptoms of gastroenteritis,” The British Monarchy official website said in a brief statement issued after her release.
The queen will turn 87 on April 21.
She celebrates two birthdays each year. Her real birthday is on April 21, and her official birthday
celebration is held on a Saturday in June.
The queen carried out 425 official engagements last year. She regarded her hospital stay as a “minor inconvenience” and expects to be back in action next week, according to The Telegraph.
