Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, were planning a visit to New Zealand’s Turangawaewae Marae but that visit has been cancelled for now.

The news was revealed by insiders privy to the information, reported Stuff.co.nz.

The last visit to the area by a royal couple was when Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh visited in 1953.

The cancellation may have stemmed from infighting between government officials regarding the schedule during the visit.

Officially, a visit to the region could still happen, said Allen Walley, media manager for the 2014 Royal Visit Office.

“It was perhaps a little bit ahead of play,” he said.

“Basically, everywhere in the country is in the mix at the moment.”
