On Presidents’ Day weekend, President Barack Obama spent the weekend at Florida’s Treasure Coast, at a private and upscale golf club resort, where he played golf and took lessons from Tiger Woods’ former coach Butch Harmon, according to CNN.
Tim Rosaforte, senior writer for Golf World and with the Golf Channel, tweeted over the weekend, “The President is arriving at The Floridian range. Awaiting is Tiger Woods and club owner Jim Crane. Historic day in golf. Their first round.” They played golf on Sunday.
Jim Crane is a Houston businessman, chief executive of Crane Capital Group and owner of the MLB team Houston Astros. Obama’s other friends, like long-time pal Eric Whitaker from Chicago and Ron Kirk a U.S. Trade representative, played golf with him.
Obama stayed inside the gated private resort the entire weekend and press was not able to go inside, which sparked complaints from the White House Correspondents’ Association. There was “extreme frustration” with the lack of access news organizations had to covering the president’s President Day weekend activities, they said, according to CNN.
Ed Henry with Fox tweeted that press was blocked because the resort was private, but yet Golf Digest was tweeting from inside. Henry tweeted that the media could not even get a picture of Obama on the golf course.
Reports say that press waited outside the gated and tried to get photos from awkward public spots outside the resort.
