A sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance in Port Charlotte in Florida, it was reported.

According to a statement posted on Facebook, Corporal Michael Wilson, a 20-year veteran with the Sheriffs Office, was killed in the line of duty.

Wilson, 42, was responding to a domestic disturbance when he was killed.

The scene is now secured, the office said, adding that Veterans Blvd. was closed off.

No further information is available at this time, police said.
